As we celebrate 250 years of America, we have found ourselves reflecting not only on the people who built our nation, but also on the incredible history that shaped it.
Many Americans may not realize that the United States Navy traces its roots back to the creation of the nation’s original six frigates. These remarkable ships represented the determination of a young country committed to protecting its freedom and securing its future.
Although most of these historic ships were lost during the early years of our nation’s history, one still remains.
The USS Constitution, affectionately known as “Old Ironsides,” continues to serve today as the oldest commissioned warship in the United States Navy. For more than two centuries, she has stood as a symbol of resilience, strength, and the enduring spirit of America.
At Leon’s Triathlon, we believe these stories matter.
Our event has always been about much more than athletic competition. It is about honoring the values that built this country: courage, perseverance, sacrifice, service, and love of one another. These same values continue to inspire our Military, Veterans, and First Responders, whom we are proud to honor each year through America’s Race.
As we gather to commemorate our nation’s 250th Anniversary, we hope each American will take a moment to remember the people, the sacrifices, and the history that have made our freedoms possible.
We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the United States Navy for sharing these remarkable historical photos and video with us. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the Navy’s rich heritage and to share these stories with our Leon’s Triathlon family. Preserving and passing along our nation’s history is one of the greatest ways we can honor those who came before us.
When you see these historic vessels through the years, we hope you will be reminded that the story of America has always been one of perseverance, faith, courage, and hope.
It is a story worth remembering.
And it is a story worth celebrating.
