At Leon’s Triathlon, some partnerships become much more than event support. They become friendships built on shared values, mutual respect, and a love of country.

That is exactly how we feel about the Indiana Army National Guard.

Over the years, their presence at Leon’s Triathlon has become one of the most meaningful parts of race weekend. Whether it is the soldiers who join us, the conversations shared throughout the event, or the unforgettable sight of the BlackHawk helicopter arriving over Wolf Lake, they have helped create memories that stay with participants long after they cross the finish line.

As we prepare to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of America, we are hopeful that the Indiana Army National Guard and their iconic BlackHawk helicopter will once again be part of America’s Race.

This is a really big deal for our event and something we never take for granted.

A tremendous amount of work goes into bringing the BlackHawk to Leon’s Triathlon. We are honored to work alongside the Indiana Army National Guard, the helicopter pilots, and city officials to help ensure everything operates safely and smoothly. Lots of planning go into identifying and preparing the perfect landing zone, coordinating logistics, and making sure every detail is carefully considered.

Many people do not realize that a BlackHawk helicopter generates rotor wash with winds that can approach hurricane-force conditions. Because of this, everything has to be just right from a safety and operational standpoint. It takes teamwork, expertise, and cooperation from many dedicated people to make it happen.

While safety will always come first, and weather conditions can change plans at any time, we have high expectations that the BlackHawk will once again be part of this year’s event.

For those who have witnessed its arrival over Wolf Lake, you know it is more than just an impressive sight. It is a powerful symbol of service, sacrifice, and the men and women who continue to defend our freedoms. It is one of the many moments that make Leon’s Triathlon such a meaningful experience for athletes, veterans, military families, and spectators alike.

For many, the BlackHawk’s arrival is a breathtaking moment. But what makes it truly special is what it represents: service, sacrifice, teamwork, courage, and commitment to something greater than oneself.

This year, race weekend carries even deeper meaning.

Saturday, June 6 marks the anniversary of D-Day, one of the most significant moments in American history. On that day, thousands of brave young men faced overwhelming obstacles as they landed on the beaches of Normandy. Their courage helped change the course of history and preserve freedom for generations to come.

There is a reason Leon’s Triathlon takes place so close to this important anniversary.

While no sporting event could ever compare to the sacrifices made by our military heroes, the spirit behind this triathlon is rooted in many of the same values that have guided Americans for 250 years: perseverance, determination, selflessness, and the willingness to keep moving forward when faced with challenges.

The racecourse presents obstacles. Life presents obstacles. Our nation’s history is filled with obstacles that were overcome because ordinary people chose to do extraordinary things for their country and for one another.

That spirit is what Leon’s Triathlon seeks to honor.

Every American flag along the course, every veteran who attends, every volunteer who gives their time, and every athlete who steps up to the starting line becomes part of that story.

As we prepare to commemorate 250 years of America, we believe it is more important than ever to remember the values that built this nation and continue to make it great. We must never forget the men and women who defended those values through their service and sacrifice.

If you want to experience those American values firsthand, we invite you to join us.

Come meet the veterans. Come support the military. Come witness the patriotism, the camaraderie, and the gratitude that make this event unlike any other. Whether you race, volunteer, or simply attend, you will be part of something much bigger than a triathlon.

From all of us at Leon’s Triathlon, thank you to the Indiana Army National Guard for your friendship, your support, and your service to our nation.

We are honored to call you friends, and we look forward to celebrating America together.

We salute you.
