As we prepare to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of America, something very special is taking shape at Leon’s Triathlon.

A dedicated group of veterans, whose average age is 72, has taken on the task of building a field of 250 American flags in honor of our nation’s 250 years of freedom, sacrifice, and perseverance.

It is hard to put into words what this display represents.

These veterans are not doing it for recognition. They are doing it because they believe in honoring our country and the people who have defended it. Day after day, they work side by side, carefully preparing what will become one of the most meaningful sights at America’s Race.

The flags will be arranged in 13 rows, representing the original 13 colonies that laid the foundation for the nation we know today.

Perhaps the most touching detail of all is how the flags will be positioned. Each flag will be spaced so that when the breeze blows across the field, the flags will gently touch one another in a symbolic gesture of unity.

In a time when unity can sometimes feel difficult to find, this simple yet powerful display serves as a reminder that we are strongest when we stand together.

For many visitors, the field of flags will be more than a beautiful backdrop. It will be a place to reflect, remember, and appreciate the sacrifices that have made our freedoms possible. It will honor those who served, those who continue to serve, and the generations of Americans who helped build this great nation.

At Leon’s Triathlon, we often say that this event is about much more than racing. It is about community, gratitude, patriotism, and honoring those who have given so much.

As athletes, families, veterans, and supporters gather for America’s Race, we hope this field of 250 flags will inspire all who see it and serve as a fitting tribute to 250 years of the American spirit.

From all of us at Leon’s Triathlon, thank you to the veterans whose hard work, dedication, and love of country are making this incredible display possible.

We are humbled by your efforts and honored to celebrate this historic milestone alongside you.

250 years. 250 flags. One nation united.
